Actually, it is a V-1650 to denote cylinder arrangement and displacement. It powered Mustangs P-51B through D, a version of the P-40, and many British aircraft including Spitfires, Hurricanes, Lancasters, Mosquitoes. Packard built over 55,000 of these Rolls Royce Merlin engines.
