Photo caption on back from Packard News Service Performance car among Packard's new 1948 designs is the super eight club sedan shown here, powered by a new 145-horsepower straight eight engine, this model has the highest power-to-weight ratio of any car in the new Packard line, one of three all new Packard eights for 1948, the super eight series includes three body types on 120-inch wheelbase, and four body types on 141-inch wheel base, all are distinguished by their new 'free flow' styling, and many other unusual body and chassis features.

Inscribed on photo back; 1948 Packard eight deluxe, twenty-second series, model 2211, 8-cylinder, 130-horsepower, 120-inch wheelbase, 6-person club sedan (body type #2265), prototype, note no hood ornament, painted headlight rings, no horizontal trim, Packard archives indicate facelift for Clipper was originally planned for twenty-first series, by 1942 the heavier front end and hidden headlights had appeared on a front end only facelift, this evolved to a more streamlined look with unhidden headlamps by 1944, in 1945 artists retouched a photo of a production 1942 Clipper, using the proposed new lines, around the same time the more elaborate custom eight grille works was emerging, finally came the production prototypes, with completely altered fuselage and flow through fenders.

Photo caption on back from Packard News Service 1948 Packard, before Packard's three all new eights for 1948 went into production each was subjected to thousands of tortuous test miles at the 513-acre Packard Proving Grounds, full speed around the world's fastest 2.5 mile concrete oval, over miles of rutty dirt roads, up hills as steep as 20 degrees, every conceivable maltreatment was inflicted upon the 1948 super eights (convertible shown here), the custom eights and the eights in months of scientific automobile abuse, all models had to pass each test of super critical research engineers before getting the production green light.
