Typed on back: "The first family to make a California to New York automobile trip were the J.M. Murdocks of Johnstown, Pa. Leaving Pasadena on April 24, 1908, the tourists arrived in New York 32 days later on May 26. The party included Mr. and Mrs. Murdock (front seat), three children, J.M. Murdock, Jr., then 10; Alicke, then 14, and Lillian, 16; F.M. Spaulding of Evanston, Wyoming, and Philip De May. A 1908 Packard "30" was used on the 3,693 mile journey. Similar photo in Automobile Topics, May 30, 1908, page 508." Handwritten on back: "Packard, 1908."
