Here is a 1940 photo of Denny Wright and Barney Oldfield seated in an old Packard in front of Denny's dealership in Oakland, California. After WWI and prior to entering the automotive business Denny was a barnstorming pilot and with another pilot named Duck formed Duck Air Service at the Oakland, California airport. They taught flying, sold rides and rented planes. They rented their fleet to Howard Hughes for the movie Hells Angles. Denny gave up flying after Duck was killed when he crashed into the Oakland/Berkeley hills. He then opened the Packard agency. The dealership closed at the start of WWII and Denny was called to train Air Force pilots at Twenty Nine Palms, California. After WWII Denny again quit flying and opened another Packard agency in Walnut Creek, California. It closed when Packard folded. |
