Here is a 1940 photo of Denny Wright and Barney Oldfield seated in an old Packard in front of Denny's dealership in Oakland, California. After WWI and prior to entering the automotive business Denny was a barnstorming pilot and with another pilot named Duck formed Duck Air Service at the Oakland, California airport. They taught flying, sold rides and rented planes. They rented their fleet to Howard Hughes for the movie Hells Angles. Denny gave up flying after Duck was killed when he crashed into the Oakland/Berkeley hills. He then opened the Packard agency. The dealership closed at the start of WWII and Denny was called to train Air Force pilots at Twenty Nine Palms, California. After WWII Denny again quit flying and opened another Packard agency in Walnut Creek, California. It closed when Packard folded.

Circa 1953, showing a Derham Patrician sedan in the showroom. In the exterior photo, it is just barely visible in the right corner. In the interior photo, it is in the right foreground. This may be the only known photo of a Derham, such as it is, in a Packard showroom.

Longacre Square, re-named Times Square after the NY Times erected its large building there, was the center for carriage rentals and sales and horse stables, etc., so it was natural that when automobiles were introduced their sales activities were centered there. However, by 1907 automobile companies began their move northward to upper Broadway in the sixties, with Packard locating at the corner of Broadway and 61st Street, 1861 Broadway

The Quickel Building (at the SW corner of 6th St. & Central Ave.) and its parking garage (at the NW corner of 6th St. & Gold Ave.) were constructed in the 1920s as a Studebaker dealership (according to this article). In 1954 Studebaker was acquired by the Packard Motor Car Company, whose logo still graces the back of the parking structure.

The Quickel Building was a three-story office building and had some tenants even after Packard left the building. Today there is still some commercial space on the first floor (home to Grisham & Lawless, a caf

Bernard Maybeck, noted California architect, designed several buildings for Earle C. Anthony. This magnificent showplace on the lake in Oakland was opened ca. 1927. Later it was either sold or leased ca. 1939 and became a Buick dealership. Incredibly it was torn down in the 1960's and the space used for a parking lot.
