The biggest risk with those shocks is that if they are full of dirt they can break the link arm mount at the frame. That is a real problem given the lubricator feeds those links.

If I was in your position I would consider making up a mounting system that can handle Houdailles. They may not have as much dampening as new originals, but will do better than worn out originals.

I have also seen 6th and 7th series cars with tube shock adapter plates. It may not be original, but you can always take out a picture of your original shocks and leave it on the running board to keep kibitzers away.
