Under Dash

As I continue to envision the completion, which is a long way away, I had a thought about the under dash of the car. When I look under there I see the vent, and I also see defroster vents in the window trim. Other than a screen in the vent, that's it. Is there supposed to be any thing to channel the incoming air? Not sure what they had in those days.
