Those questionable pants are plus fours, fashionable golf and sports wear at the time.

It's the shoes that have me worried. He is a fashion designer so I suppose it is all right.

I have a book on Pierce Arrow by Maurice Hendry, on the cover is a picture of a mid twenties Pierce with people in sport clothes, the man is wearing plus fours and argyle socks.

They were called plus fours because they were 4 inches longer than common old fashioned Knickerbocker trousers.

If you think those are bad wait till you see a pair of Oxford bags.
