Type of lacquer

Does anyone have an opinion or information regarding painting a classic era Packard with Duco type nitro-cellulose lacquer vs. modern acrylic lacquer? My understanding is the nitrocellulose produces a deeper more lustrous finish. Also, when did Packard go from using lacquer to enamel?
