According to the PI Chassis Judging guide draft that I saw. (and it was a preliminary draft only). All chassis components are painted Chassis Black (except in those cases where custom painted chassis were ordered). Chassis Black is designated as low-cost, low-gloss black paint. Basically it was there to help prevent rust, not to be a show piece.
