Yeah I tried that on a piece, however I sprayed a primer on first to test and carefully wiped off the raised portion of the grooves with acetone and that left the recessed grooves with primer still in them. I was going to follow up with a rattle can paint and repeat with the acetone wipe, leaving the recessed grooves with paint still in them.
