Re: Packard Green Engine Paint

I have a '37 (237) and a '40 (245), and two spare engines (both 245 from the 1947 production year, a few thousand units apart in production). Both of the engines that were in the cars when I got them were worked on at some point but none of the paint on **any** of the four engines matches any specific shade of "green", let alone the "Bell System" color, and at least three of the four were original factory paint. The '40 had seen some valve replacement but it was apparent that the engine had never been out of the frame. I special-ordered the "Bell System" green for the '47 engine now in the '40, and it looks great, but isn't that close to the original color nor the other colors of green on the other engines.

Pick something that's close enough and call it good. Obviously the factory had several shades over the run of at least the 237-245 engines; I would not drop a bunch of money on it again, if I had to do it over.
