I think I might be able to answer your question. The Super 8 is not interchangeable with the 12.

The Super 8 and junior cars are physically the same size, but the Super 8 has movable shutters controlled by a shutter-stat. The junior cars in most cases did not. I say in most cases because as I understand it they could be ordered with shutters if the owner wished. I have also understood that some junior platform professional cars could have been delivered with shutters. Physically they will interchange with the only difference being shutter v. stationary grill bars.
