As for the "Hot six" idea, you're better off putting in a 288/327 than a six. You'll have a lot more engine for the same money, and the postwar straight eights are easier t find than the sixes.

You can build a nice 288 that'll rev and have plenty of power a LOT easier than trying to make a six work. And I can give you a few pointers as well.
