As for the Sgt worried about any rank change i doubt it. He was probably more worried about keeping access to the steaks and ground beef handed to him out the back door of the Gen's quarters instead going back to rations.


Very true but if he were not a sergeant, access to the high living would be gone and he'd be doing physical labor and eating S.O.S.. Another line from the movie after the first time he was busted was when the general asked for his driver. Upon hearing it was the now busted sergeant, Savage replied "Generals rate a sergeant for a driver so better put the stripes back on." I think he only rated a Ford for his staff car though.
