Andacar, I think the term for the front axle type you are interested in is called solid beam. Packard, and most all other makes, used two semi-elliptic springs with their solid beam front axles. Ford, and maybe some other makes used a single transversely mounted leaf spring with their front axles and their rear axles. Their design started with the Model Ts and ended with the 1948 models. Quite a long run when you consider that essentially everyone else went to independent front suspension by the mid-1930s. Looking forward to seeing how you create a digital image of an old time front suspension.
