Wire "W" clips to retain lamp reflectors and lenses go way back in use into the 20s, maybe earlier. Easy enough to make but fortunately they are still available in quite a few sizes. Restoration Specialties or Restoration Supply still has them. This particular one is for the 33-34 Packard "Solar" lamps, and perhaps earlier.
