1929 Packard carburetor jet

Hi all,

I have heard rumor that you should have the main jet in the old updraft caburetors replaced with a smaller orifice...reduces (or eliminates?) the risk of burning up exhaust valves from the hotter burning new generation of gasoline. I know nothing about actually getting my 1929 Packard running...I am still struggling with the final stages of accumulating parts. Has anyone heard a similar story...any advice will be much appreciated. If this is true, any idea who machines the appropriate size jet?

I guess another question is: when I do (someday) get to the point of trying to fire this thing up, what gas does one use? Do you add octane booster? Sorry for the seemingly juvenile questions.

John
