Probably a silly question, but I will ask: Did you by chance get the distributor in 180 deg. off? It can go in either way as the slot on the shaft is not offset. An easy mistake many of us have made.

Edit: I now see where O_D addressed this in your other post. Looks like you may have a different kind of problem or maybe both.
