Do you know what the purpose of the nichrome wire serves - is it like a fusible link?

If it's similar in function to 33-34, it's NOT a fusible link but rather a circuit breaker for headlights which allows limited lighting in the event of a short circuit.

Update: Adding text from 1934 owner's manual which describes the headlight protection. Though as I understand it the 32 only has 1 fuse, I assume the resistance wire plays the same role.
