Hi Phil:

You should take off the water jacket and inspect it. There may be mud backed up in the block and the jacket itself may be rusted through causing no cooling at the back of the motor. The rear bolts may break off and that is a pain so buy some high quality cobalt bits and a high quality 1/4-28 tap. A thread repair guide will tell you what drill size to use, but get there using increments. You will also need a good center punch.

If that part of the cooling system is good then at least have the radiator flushed in a hot tank. A skilled shop can take the bottom tank off as well. A specialist can hot flush the thing using acid and a neutralizer rinse.

Sometimes those radiators clog when the are stored dry as well because the rust particles swell up.
