1940 120 Distributor

I bought a 1940 120 Autolite Distributor #GP 4501-A over the weekend. To my surprise, it has centrifugal advance rather than a vacuum advance. I guess you can learn something new every day! I have never seen a Packard distributor with centrifugal advance on it. Is this common?
