1941 120 multiple choice engine mounting holes

Hey everyone, we are working on a 1941 120 convertible coupe, and are noticing that there are two sets of mounting holes for the engine and trans, one set forward of the other. Does anyone know why these holes are there? Did the overdrive-equipped cars require the engine to be moved slightly forward? The car in question was not equipped with an overdrive.
