Re: 1930 740 battery box

The battery box has 4 bolts and nuts holding it to the side of the chassis. There are small square section spacers attached to the side of the box holding it about 1/2" away from the side of the chassis.

The cover is held on by 4 studs, one in each corner of the box fixed so that there is a little movement to allow the top holding female threaded screws to align. Bill Hirsch has thesehttp://www.hirschauto.com/Battery-Box-Screws/products/54/

I fitted a battery isolator. My 740 has side mounted spares so it is well hidden and easy to access.

The leads from the battery run through the side of the chassis via special brass fittings. The attachment for the negative power lead has insulating bushes originally made from a red fibre like material. I machined new ones from a machinable plastic. The earth connects to the chassis and I ran an extra strap across to the rear engine mounting.

Hopefully the attached photos will show all of this better. let me know if you need any more details.
