Don't think it would hurt anything but you would need to obtain any necessary fittings to connect 3/8 tubing to the factory 5/16 fitting at the tank plus whatever is needed to connect to the flex hose at the fuel pump.

Can't speak directly to 37 but later cars have a brass block fitting bolted to the frame or sheetmetal that the flex hose connects to. The 5/16 tubing is soldered or brazed to that block so if you have one, reusing it might be an issue with larger tubing.
