1937 120 Oil Filtration System

I am preparing to fire up my rebuilt engine and wanted to check to make sure everything internal was looking like it should. The material in the internal oil filter basket is no longer there. Does anyone know where I can obtain the material that goes in this oil filter basket? I bought the car after the engine had been rebuilt and since I could not get to the engine for quite a while, I added oil to the case in a sufficient quantity to keep the piston bearings lubricated. That raised the level to the oil filter basket. My thinking is that with the amount of oil in the pan, this material finally dissolved.
My research on Google and other sites have returned no information on this type of filtration system.
