I thought it was held in by a screw that went into it at an angle through the door jamb, or at least that's what 1940 110s had. As I recall, they are short screws and according to the parts book, they are 10-24 X 9/16. I don't recall the head type but they had some kind of retained lockwasher to keep them from coming loose.
