I heard that older tappets such as I have in my '28 6 cylinder can be modified by replacing the top adjustment bolt and jam nut with the top of a later tappet. I'm missing the specifics, but it sounded like they used a spring arrangement so that the jam nut is not longer used. It sounds like valve adjustment would be a lot easier! Does anyone know about this? I've included a photo of my tappet and some tappets for sale from a 1940 120. Any inputs would be appreciated! Does the change help? How do you do it?
