1937 120 Front Seat Stack Pocket?

In rebuilding my convertible coupe's front seat frame I notice a small square tube 'stake' pocket on the driver's side inside surface of the frame. I am curious as to its purpose. This is my first brush with any kind of Packard so I have learned a lot from this site.
