1940 Packard 180 petronix

has anyone here installed a Petronix on a 356 straight-eight were you able to use the stock coil? were there any other issues? I had a petronix unit installed on my car with a petronix coil; it ran fine but I noticed on the way home after filling my tank (it was on E) my gas gauge my oil pressure gauge stopped working so I am wondering what happened? Oddly enough the ammeter gauge worked properly.
