Re: 1929 640 Brakes

I have been struggling with the problem of the left front brake locking up when I make a left turn and the right locks up with a right turn. I have partially disassembled the front brakes and have found the problem, but not the cause. when I turn the wheel to the full left, the arm on the Perrot shaft (The arm that the cable fastens to) rotates forward about 10 degrees, increasing the pull on the brake cable. This is with the cable completely removed from the arm, so the movement is not caused by a movement of the cable. I have removed the outboard ball joint (fastens to the backing plate) of the system and there is no slop or problem there. The simple turning of the wheel outward is causing the Perrot shaft to rotate. It has been suggested that I loosen the brake cables. I have tried this and when loosened to the point that the wheels do not lock, I have no front brakes. Any ideas on what could be causing this?
