Re: Broken Axle

Those that remember the character in the "Lil Abner" cartoon strip that always had a dark cloud over his head. well that's me.

The nut that came off the broken axle looked like it had once been subject to being put on with a pipe wrench so I elected to get new nuts. After everything was "back together" I noticed the replacement nuts sourced were 1 1/8 and the ones that they replaced were 1 3/8". Since I decided that difference was significant in this particular case, I ordered new ones from one of the usual vendors in the states. Bought a 1 3/8" socket to fit the borrowed 3/4" drive torque wrench. Installed the first new nut without problem. Grabbed next new nut and guess what? 1 1/4" nut. Of course, I didn't have a 3/4" drive 1 1/4 socket...only half inch drive, so now how to torque.....anyway finally got it.

Good news is got the new set of tires on today, and the new voltage regulator I installed works great. And all the electical parts are here for the OD.

However, my list increased as the head gasket is leaking.

So off to auto electrician for the non working horn and starter button, then on to the head gasket.

Not sure if I am winning or the car is.....but then I'm stubborn.
