I'd be careful with the shocks from a '40. The 1935-1941 parts manual seems to indicate that for the 1800-1801 there is no left/right designation while all other years show different part numbers for the left and right shock absorber. The manual also shows '2' per car for the 1800-1801 while the other years show '1' per car (1 left, 1 right). I know that I can't swap the left for the right on my '41.

As 'Mr. Dyneto' pointed out, the different part numbers may apply to the same basic shock body but indicate different compression/rebound valve values contained within. The parts manual lists over 40 different valve rebound/compression codes for these 6 years alone. While the shocks from my '41 limo might bolt right into your 120, I suspect it would ride like a brick.
