Let me just add that if it's been a long time since it was last removed, there is a good likelihood of some corrosion between the cast iron of the starter snout and the aluminum crankcase so they can sometimes be pretty stubborn to remove. Some penetrating oil and trying first to rotate the starter a few degrees back and forth may be helpful in breaking it free.
