Re: Horn repair...

Dear Russ:

Given the horns make a sound there is hope.

Under the chrome cover there is a set of points that operate an electromagnetic oscillator. As the points make and break a diaphram vibrates and makes sound just like a trumpet player.

Carefully dab penetrating oil on the threads of the adjuster for the points and let them soak for a week or two repeating every day or two. The longer the better.

Once the screws are free you can turn the adjuster to make the horn vibrate. Carefully clean the contact surfaces with alcohol.

For the 10th series the tone is raspy and I reckon around Bb.

These horns are very sturdy and I have seen them survive unspeakable abuse at the hands of the ignorant.

Good Luck.
