Why not just buy some steel rod of the correct OD? Peen one end, cut to length, and upset the other end after installing. Or you can get fancier if you wish, drill a little counterbore at the end requiring the final upset, and flare it out as it would have been originally. It would certainly look a lot more correct than a machine screw.
