Certainly don't use petroleum-based grease as it may (probably will) ultimately destroy the properties of the rubber. The resistance to movement (hysteresis) of the joint is an intergral part of the suspension design and should probably be maintained for the best ride properties. I wouldn't use any lubricant at all (other than a little soap for reassembly) but if you feel you absolutely must, perhaps a silicone grease would be a better choice.
