Your "LeBaron" rims look exactly like the rims on my 1940 Super 8 180. There should be no reason why the inner trim rings wouldn't fit. Those raised areas have nothing to do with the trim ring, and don't come anywhere near it.
I suggest you post a picture of the "inner trim ring" that you're trying to install. It doesn't sound right. The correct trim ring should only go about 1/8th of an inch under the hub cap.
