Well at least u had electricity to run the fan. There were several rural areas of the US that didn't have electricity till as late as 1964. Communities in the area of the so-called Grinders Switch made famous by M Perl.

What amazes me is the modern near extinction of out door toilet facilities. Anyone can laugh if they want to, go ahead. But how smart is the modern man who runs OUTside to bar-b-q his food, eat it at a picnic table outside and then runs into the house to take a shit.
