My 47 has the same damage where the floor and vertical pieces meet except mine is across the back below the lid opening bottom panel. Believe that same seam and sealant that was used to fill the maybe cm wide gap between the floor and rear panel continues around. The sealer on mine failed and water was able to get under and rust the lip of floor panel completely thru most of way across the back. It is kind of hidden under the bumper splash panel so if you haven't already, you might want to check yours carefully too.

I admire those of you that can co-ordinate the basic welding fundamentals and do a repair. A lost cause in my case so any attempt here and it will be deciding which looks better -- keep the existing rust holes, add a few more blown thru holes in different spots from the welding attempt, or figure out how to stylishly use half inch thick blobs of melted weld.

Keeping the existing is the most promising. Maybe I can square up the damage, find a 22-23 Custom rear chrome piece and then have a way to use the holes to add flow thru ventilation. Another Packard first!! Decisions, decisions.
