Yes, I had thought of that but not sure if kerosene something I can have shipped here. I'll look into it. I already have solvent but I'm afraid that it is so dirty that it will make things worse!

As for the springs, yes, they are massive as is the rear axle. The springs also mount to the outside of the frame which spaces them much farther apart than those on a passenger car and the drums push the wheels out at the back even farther. Not sure of the weight but my former 1951 Henney-Packard was 5,600 lbs and my 1952 was 6,200 lbs!
