Howard: gluing the two sides together assumes I am good enough to cut them exactly as needed. If I could cut them exactly I could an old soldering iron and plastic-weld them together also.
This way gives me room for error. You may be right about that tape. It is for cold weather, not heat.

RH: I could use a lot of different materials. I have some light galvanized sheet metal that I considered using but, I was hoping for something lighter and has some flex.

Whatever I end up doing, it probably will not be pretty but, you folks are the only ones who will ever see it.
