Couple of things total. I stripped and paint all the metal in the package tray area and the sheet metal flange where the top tacking strip attaches to.
Once that was cured, I installed the new tacking strip. I used a plastic tacking strip as it apparently holds staples better and doesn't absorb water like the old stuff did.
Instead of rivets, I used screws from the back side through the old rivet holes. With the tacking strip in place I installed the boot snaps. These are temporary as they will have to come out once the top material goes on.
The old boot fits pretty good and will make good pattern later on. Its soiled and dry rotted, so not a keeper.
My wife requested carpet in the trunk. So Happy Wife, Happy Life. Also, it covers up all the dynamat. This was the same carpet I used up front.
Lastly, I used some 000 steel wool and mothers polish and managed to turn the steel bow and trunk rack emblem pretty presentable. I had little hope they would come out this well both had heavy green/rusty patina on them.
