If you do take it off make sure to take a multitude of photos showing all the seams and pieces from different angles and how everything attaches. The frame might not be too hard to figure out but the cushions are.

I made the very mistake you are worried about with my 47 rear seat cushion. The upholsterer did a great looking job we thought but then we had issues getting things to fit just right because the original upholstery was off the springs when he got the seat. Turned out to have a spot he couldn't fix without a redo and sewing a new piece which I elected not to have done. Padding was needed in a place and none was there when upholstery was cut and sewn. Without any padding in place a hollow spot and gap next to another cushion is noticeable.

On a related note, when upholsterer did a 54 front seat he said that was a complex job because Packard added several underlayment strips to the upholstery cover which are positioned on the bias and are anchored in different directions. Apparently that is done so the visible upholstery could not shift and bunch. He said most other mfgs did not do this extra step. Expect the 55 was done the same way since the frames are so similar.
