In regards to the 1000 and 1500 grit sand paper you have, I cannot emphasize enough that you don't start with it. If the orange peel is as bad as you say, you need to knock down those peaks. More work, but you'll be so much more happy with the final results. You can make your paint job look very professional.
Here's a thought, though. Spray a sample panel of some sort, and practice. Being a metallic paint, sometimes sanding too much can produce dark blotchy spots. Perhaps that's not as much of a problem with such a dark color, but that's why I'm suggesting that you try a practice panel.
