Henry, looking at the photos your ball & trunnion joint I am reminded of a distant memory that says not to pack too much grease into the housing. If too much is packed-in, rotation will force it into the rubber boot area and "explode" a hole in the boot. Maybe someone here with more recent experience (i.e., less than 50 years ago) can chime in and confirm or deny my recollection. Also, I wonder why Packard did not use a conventional U-joint for their Ultamatic equipped cars? I think Chrysler Corp. used this same kind of joint on their cars too.
