That is correct. Tapers in starting at the end of filler panel and the fender. I measured four inches from the seam toward outboard of car, stops under the beginning of my tail light assembly. If I can figure out how to light it well, I'll shoot a straight down photograph on my right side, which is intact. I don't have total control over light output using the dSLR dink flash to slave a flash head that I am bouncing in the trunk.
Here are a couple of images of the right side showing the fibers. I think you can actually see the texture of the material. I uploaded a much larger image this time for enlargement
