Stephen, I don't have anything other than rayon to compare with. It looks like and I vaguely remember a much coarser material than the rayon I've been using on a project. Those fibers are listed as .030 and dry fairly smooth (if the glue is applied consistently).
Their nylon fibers are .040 and one of the uses listed is auto trunks.

The original color looks like it might be a challenge with the standard stock available but mixing a couple for a custom blend might work if the texture was OK. I believe Ross mentioned doing a trunk or two at one time. Maybe he has more information.
