Stephen, I don't have anything other than rayon to compare with. It looks like and I vaguely remember a much coarser material than the rayon I've been using on a project. Those fibers are listed as .030 and dry fairly smooth (if the glue is applied consistently).

Their nylon fibers are .040 and one of the uses listed is auto trunks.http://www.donjer.com/cars.htm Without ordering some and trying it, just a guess if that would be closer. The original color looks like it might be a challenge with the standard stock available but mixing a couple for a custom blend might work if the texture was OK. I believe Ross mentioned doing a trunk or two at one time. Maybe he has more information.
