While you're in there you probably should undertake the adjustments for the motor armature end-play and friction (anti-hunting) clutch - these are well-described in the shop manual.

If you to pull the motor off and remove the armature, be prepared for a lot of frustration getting the brushes back into position on the commutator - wouldn't do it unless it's absolutely essential.

The best videos of the unit in operation on an original Packard test panel are those by Mr.Pushbutton who does impeccable repair and improvement to these units, better than done by the OEM. Just about everyone I know with a PB unit either has a Mr. Pushbutton unit installed, or in the trunk waiting for the inevitable day when it will be needed.
