Wonder if your San Diego snow is the same stuff the local weather people are calling graupel.
Never heard the term before last week but several of the weather reporters have been throwing the name around since the storm started. Whatever is coming down in some places apparently does not fit the official description of either snow or hail.
As I understand it, whatever flake was falling out of the sky was too large, heavy and dense to be called snow but at the same time was not large, dense. or heavy enough to be called hail so it was technically graupel. Despite the name it is still wet, cold, slippery, messy and white.
